A journalist since 1989, I have worked for printed publications and websites, both as a member of successful editorial teams and as a freelance contributor.

My passion is music –predominantly soul, ska, folk and indie – but I have also written about other subjects such as film, books, the internet, restaurants and human rights – since February 2008 I have written news stories for the Amnesty International website.

Music Editor for The Big Issue for eight years, I was also an online editor for The Guardian website and sub-editor for the Independent on Sunday magazine. I was Reviews Editor for the website Dotmusic among others and have written for Red Pepper, More, Mojo and Loaded. In 1997 I wrote the programme notes for Paul Weller’s A Day at the Races concert in London’s Crystal Palace.

You can read examples of my work, including interviews with Paul Weller, Morrissey, Courtney Love, The Stone Roses, Ian Dury, Supergrass and Garbage on my Portfolio page.

I am now a full-time freelance. Any commissioning editors considering me for work should email me at garycrossing@hotmail.co.uk or leave a comment in the box below.
